A Literary Review of the Roy Adaptation Model for Application in Nursing Field

Abstract
The purposes of this literary review are to identify assumptions, key concepts, and propositions of the Roy Adaptation Model, and to search for application of Roy¢¥s model in nursing fields.
Systems theory, adaptation level theory, and general notions of humanistic philosophy and psychology provide the background for the emerging concepts of the Roy adaptation model.
The Roy adaptation model of nursing is presented by discussing each of the major concepts-person, health, environment, and nursing.
Propositions are suggested.
Documentation of the application of Roy¢¥s model for nursing practice, education, and research are provided by the examples.
Roy¢¥s model will be part of the knowledge that forms the science of nursing. However, this review of the model points to the need for continuing development of many of its
aspects.
